“It is with regret we have to record the death of Mr Alfred William Alsop, son of Mr and Mrs A. Alsop, of 44 Waldegrave Street, and husband of Eva Alsop, of Palmerston North. The deceased was a most highly respected and much esteemed young man, who gave promise of a very successful career in business, and was well-known locally as “Billy.” He was educated at tho Longburn district school, and later at the Palmerston North High School. He was for some yours a member of Messrs Hankins and Lockhart-Fitzherbert’s staff, and after leaving them took up the position of travelling representative for Messrs Spooner and Co., of Palmerston North, which position he held until his decease.  He was an enthusiastic member of the Terrace End Tennis Club, and was also an ardent footballer. Sincere sympathy is extended to his young wife and also to his parents, Mr and Mrs Alsop, in their great loss.” (Manawatu Standard, 20 Nov. 1918, p. 5.)
