Alice Elizabeth Peterson (née Draper) married Mathias August Peterson in 1891.
“PETERSEN-On the 22nd November, 1918, at her residence, 258 Taranaki Street, Alice Elizabeth, dearly beloved wife of August Petersen, and mother of Will and Charlie (on active service); aged 50 years. Deeply regretted.” [Evening Post, 25 Nov. 1918, p. 1]
Alice’s sister, Lillian, died in Masterton on the same day:
“YALDEN-On the 22nd November, 1918, at Masterton Hospital, Lillian Camilla, dearly beloved wife of George Yalden, and sister of the late Alice Elizabeth Petersen; aged 42 years. Deeply regretted.” [Evening Post, 25 Nov. 1918, p. 1]
“MRS GEORGE YALDEN. The many friends in Masterton of Mr George Yalden will learn with sincere regret that Mrs George Yalden passed away at the Masterton Hospital at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon. The deceased, who was 43 years of age, and was well known aud highly respected in Masterton and Eketahuna, underwent an operation for peritonitis on Sunday last, and complications followed, which terminated as above stated. The deceased leaves a husband and two sons to mourn their loss. These will have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement. The funeral took place at the Masterton Cemetery this afternoon. A sad incident in connection with Mrs Yalden’s death is that her elder sister, Mrs Alice Petersen, died in Wellington yesterday morning in connection with the prevailing epidemic.” [Wairarapa Daily Times, 23 Nov. 1918, p. 5]
