The following is not necessarily referring to  George Masters, but illustrates the sensitivities surrounding some occupations during the epidemic:

“The question of whether a man who is suffering from influenza should be allowed to continue selling milk confronted the Wanganui Borough Council at its last meeting. It was decided that milk-vending was, in the public interest, the most dangerous of all occupations for any epidemic-stricken man to pursue. The milkman in question was ordered to cease operations while suffering from the disease. The incident brought forth the suggestion that householders would be well advised to scald their milk.” (Poverty Bay Herald, 30 Nov. 1918, p.9)
